Download Our Attendance & Punctuality Policy in Full

There is a strong and obvious link between school attendance and student achievement. If students are not in school, they cannot do the work and it is very difficult to make up lost ground. Parents should, therefore, make every effort to ensure that their child attends school.

If you know your child is going to be late or absent, a telephone call is required to the school office before 10am on the morning of absence. This will ensure that you will not be contacted unnecessarily either by phone or letter. Upon your child's return to school, a note is still required to comply with Authority and School procedures.

Parents should make every effort to organise holidays during holiday periods. In exceptional circumstances, they should write to the Headteacher requesting permission for their child to go on holiday during term time.

Your child's absence will be authorised if it falls into one of the following categories:

  • illness, medical, dental appointment
  • day set aside exclusively for religious observance
  • work experience
  • study leave
  • leave of absence granted by the Headteacher for a special circumstance (please apply in writing, before the required absence, requesting formal permission to the Headteacher and Governing Body).
Leave of absence for a holiday in term time is at the headteacher's discretion but parents are advised that it is not in the best educational interests of their children.

All other absences will be classified as unauthorised or unjustified absence. We actively discourage late arrival and unauthorised absence. Pupils who are late on 3 occasions will be placed on a late detention. the registers will officially close at 10.00am for the morning session and 2.25pm for the afternoon session.
